Finish Cabinetry Installer (Independent Sub‑Contractor – Ontario)
Relationship & Classification Statement
This position is offered strictly on a sub‑contract, independent contractor basis and does not constitute an employment relationship under Ontario labour law. The Installer is engaged as a self‑employed business providing cabinetry installation services and is responsible for compliance with CRA contractor classification rules and WSIB requirements.
Scope of Services
The Finish Cabinetry Installer (Sub‑Contractor) provides professional cabinet and millwork installation services on a project or unit basis, in accordance with supplied drawings, specifications, and agreed scopes of work.
Services may include:
- Installation of finish cabinetry (kitchens, vanities, built‑ins, and custom millwork)
- Interpretation of shop drawings and construction documents
- Measuring, leveling, plumbing, scribing, trimming, and fastening cabinetry
- Installation of hardware and accessories
- Jobsite coordination with general contractor representatives and other trades
- Identification and reporting of site issues impacting installation
Contractor Independence & Control
To align with CRA and WSIB tests for independence:
- The Sub‑Contractor determines how the work is performed within project requirements
- Work is performed using the Sub‑Contractor’s own tools, equipment, and methods
- The Sub‑Contractor may provide qualified helpers or crew at their discretion
- Financial risk is assumed by the Sub‑Contractor for rework due to installation deficiencies
- Payment is made per unit, project, or agreed contract rate, not hourly wages
Business & Compliance Requirements (Ontario)
The Sub‑Contractor must:
- Operate as a registered business or sole proprietor
- Provide a valid WSIB clearance certificate or a recognized WSIB exemption where applicable
- Carry Commercial General Liability insurance (minimum coverage as contractually required)
- Be responsible for HST registration, invoicing, and remittance where applicable
- Handle all income tax, CPP, and business expenses independently
- Maintain workplace safety practices in accordance with Ontario regulations
Tools, Materials & Expenses
- Sub‑Contractor supplies all standard hand tools and power tools required for finish installation
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by site rules is supplied by the Sub‑Contractor
- Transportation, fuel, tool maintenance, and related expenses are the Sub‑Contractor’s responsibility
Quality & Performance Standards
- Installations must meet agreed‑upon finish quality standards
- Work must be completed within project timelines set in the service agreement
- Deficiencies attributable to installation workmanship are the responsibility of the Sub‑Contractor
- Professional conduct is required at all project sites
